Springtime

By Allen Hackworth — 2000

The world awakens from its winter sleep,
As tender shoots through softened earth now creep.
A robin's song drifts on the morning air,
And hints of green appear everywhere.

The brook runs free, released from icy chains,
While gentle showers wash the dusty plains.
Each bud and blossom reaches toward the light,
Transforming what was barren into bright.

So too the heart, when winter's chill departs,
Finds hope renewed and mended broken parts.
For springtime brings a promise, soft and true —
That life begins again, made fresh and new.
